Pie Plate Resophonic Guitar
The Ultimate Cheep guitar
This is the pie plate special! This guitar started out 20 years
ago as a $3 Regal From salvation army. I had badly wanted a
Resophonic guitar but had no money. So I cut a plywood top
from some scrap, made a ring for the resonator(pipe plate)
to rest on and found just the right 25 cent pie plate at the sally
ann. The pie plate special saw me through hard times and
had serious street  music MOJO. Little old ladies loved it and
made sure I didn’t go hungry. It came along  to Arkansas  in
1990 and was rebuilt with a walnut top, as time went by the
cobbled together nature of the wee beasty became evident,
the top split, the neck need a rest and it was sent to the dark
corner of the basement ( at this point I had a ” Real” national
guitar)

A flood was nearly the end of this guitar, and it moldered
away, all but forgotten. But no, lightnin bug to the rescue. The
bits and pieces were sitting around the combined lightnin bug
guitars/otter stocks shop this past July and Mic challanged
me to a power guitar building session. All that we could save
was the original sides, the neck and the old pie plate that still
had the 25 cent price tag on it from 20 years ago. 4 days
later the pie plate special was gloriously reborn in its third
incarnation. You can hear its voice on the the tunes page
www.muttmotorpool.com/ottertunes.html  on the “circle roun
de sun ” track

Ok its not a 1932 National Duolian but its got its own unique
sound, it was fun to build and play and its not for sale.
