This is a description of a modified M-151 head done for a customer of ours that
has ask us to sell it for him. The modification was done in January of 2001 and
worked very well, unfortunately the engine it was installed on was a high
mileage block that eventually lost compression in two of the four cylinders. It
still ran better than a stock engine by far, but he wanted more power. We
eventually rebuilt another engine with a totally new head, header, and 2"
exhaust with dual pipes after the muffler for him, now he's satisfied.
This Head and exhaust was obtained by otter owner of Mutt motorpool in the summer of
2002 and intalled on his M151A2, for details of installation and test results Click Here
Custom applications such as this are normally done on a cost plus basis.

The picture above is of the header I fabricated for this application. It utilizes 3/8" plate
stock for the header flange. 16 GA. Mandrel bent tubing parts welded to form the
individual pipes forming the header. Upon installation in the vehicle, we welded the
stock MUTT exhaust manifold flange on the shinny portion, and cut the stock pipe and
re-welded the exhaust pipe flange to attach to the header. That way all stock exhaust
parts for the MUTT could be used after the header.
The picture above is the head with the header installed and the intake manifold modified to
allow for heat transfer from the header to the air charge in the intake manifold, making for better
running conditions when cold.
The picture above illustrates the differences between the stock and modified exhaust
(Header). As can be seen there is ample room for the alternator, the pipe is in the
same location as the original, and just above the bend is where the original flange is
re-welded.
The picture above show's an original head with stock exhaust, and the new
head with header. As you will notice the headers follows the same path as the
stock exhaust.
The picture above show's our client's new engine and full header. He wanted
more power, and he got it with this set-up. We didn't have this head done by
BigIslandPerformanceCenter because of the time constraints. We preformed
all of the welding, porting, and header building in house, only the machine
work for milling the head and the valve job was done by and outside firm.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact
me, Ron, at 1-808-885-4976 or e-mail me at
dynasty@ilhawaii.net for additional information about this
set-up.
The picture above show's the head just after painting, and ready for the
exhaust manifold. The lower header bolts (supplied) require an anti-seize
compound on the threads, to prevent them from seizing if removal is later
required, because they are in contact with the water passage in the head.
