We took a New Republic Guitars Highway 61 model and turned in into what we call the
" Swamp thang"
We disassembled the instrument, removed the generic antique finish from the brass
body and hand antiqued it. Then we removed the fingerboard from the neck and made a
custom board out of spalted swamp maple, ebony bound with abalone markers. After
installing the new fingerboard we refinished the neck in a tobacco sunburst with
nitrocellulose lacquer. The guitar was reassembled using solid walnut and mahogany
for internal plates and shims. We set the action up for easy finger style playing but not
too low for slide.... Theres only going to be one like this!! no more fully custom
highway 61's coming out of our shop!
Support hand made in the USA!

Swamp Moss,
We have had four Highway 61's in the shop lately to
customize, This one was a Dandy as is came from the
factory, the best one we had played un modified .
Usually these come from the factory very rough and
badly set up. So we just refined her a bit. Made a
nicer polished bone nut, smoothed and sealed the
fingerboard and polished the frets, refined the saddle
and put on a 30's style green crystal lacquer finished
cover plate,

M-61 Desert issue.....
We started with a new brass Highway 61,
Painted it flat Khaki, replaced the neck binding
with curley maple and capped the headstock with
curley maple. Then refinished the neck with a very
dark nitrocellulose tobacco burst. Smoothed and
sealed the fingerboard, polished the frets and
made a new polished bone nut... Set up with
action 7/64" at the 12 th fret... Rich warm and
loud!!! Sold

Dark Holler,
We sure like the " swamp green" factory
finish on this New steel bodied Highway
61. Just felt that the neck could be a wee
bit wider than 1 3/4" at the nut, so
replaced the white ABS binding with curly
purple heart ,for just a 1/16" more width.
We then refined the neck shape to be a bit
smoother of a curve and refinished in a
very dark Tobacco burst nitrocellulose.
To keep with the darker look, we capped
the headstock with Macassar ebony. Then
smooth and seal the fingerboard, made a
new polished bone nut and polished the
frets.
These little Highway 61's really come to
life with a detailed set up....:-)
amazing sound out of such a little guitar
